No Love for Kate's Book Love Is In The Mix

An eagle-eyed reader wrote to Zondervan to find out the status of Kate Gosselin's upcoming book Love Is In The Mix and this is what she was told.   Love Is In The Mix was to be a cookbook penned solely by Kate and was due to be released in October 2009.  I am sorry to see it not work out since I encourage her finding satisfying work that doesn't involve the children also having to work.

Even if the children wanted to work and their dad supported them in doing so (two big not happening "ifs",) history tells us they're getting past the ages when children are as cute and marketable as younger kids.  Now that Kate has become accustomed to living an extravagent lifestyle, the question is, what can she do to support herself and the children in the manner to whcih they have become accustomed?  This is a critical point financially because, according to Paul Petersen who's witnessed it countless times with former child stars, this is when parents start dipping into their children's savings rather than downsizing or changing their lifestyles to something less affordable.  Then when the kiddies turn 18 and try to collect on their incomes they discover to their dismay that little or nothing is left.

Hopefully Kate's utilized her skills for saving money to make plans for the time when the work ends so that the kid's incomes, which they have earned, will be theirs and theirs alone for them to use as they wish when they are older.

Thank you for contacting Zondervan.

The title Love is in the Mix has been cancelled, will not be published.  The book never released so it is not available in Europe.

Currently that are no new titles scheduled by Kate Gosselin.

Thank you

There is something wrong with this response from Zondervan.

Am I the only one who not only remembers that LOVE IS IN THE MIX was in fact released (dumped) in Asia after the divorce announcement, but also saw confirmation of it online?

Can someone back me up here? Was the conversation on GWOP?

Or am I just giving credibility to all the blonde jokes once again?

Thank goodness Zondervan Publishing has seen the light and will not be killing anymore trees to publish this grifter's 'writings'. I seriously doubt that Katie Irene has had that many original thoughts in her life since we all know this fiasco started because she was obsessed with the McCaughley multiples. She probably sits around and compares all the help, $, and freebies she has received for her multiples to what they received and laughs because she got more. However, there's several things she lost along the way that the McCaughleys still have, class and Christian values.

I hope that the fine folks at Zondervan Customer Care aren't also editors! For a publishing company, wouldn't you think that they would take the time to proof their correspondence?

Fantastic! Another project of the great Kate bites the dust and nothing else is on the horizon.

Yes, I believe I heard the book was out in some country, but I could be wrong - it could be the clothing line.

And I did write and give Zondervan a piece of my "disappointment" in them as a Christian publisher for publishing Kate's books beyond the one Beth wrote.

"EGOS IN THE MIX "-They should have a TV show about all the narcissistic people in Hollywood for a new TV Reality Show , Kate Gosselin, Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, leave the kids out of it and see who comes out "winning". The one with the biggest ego wins! I for one hope they will tape the kids less and less and just set Kate out on her own to dig her own selfish hole.

March 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJulie B

Mickey, I'm pretty sure the cook book was never available. Are you perhaps thinking of the clothing line Kate was supposed to endorse for Healthtex? The endorsement was canceled at about the same time that the publication of the cookbook was "delayed" but the clothes were still sold without Kate's image attached.
http://www.myfoxphilly.com/dpp/entertainment/television/070209_Kate_gosselin_clothing_line

I agree with WG, I think it would be great if Kate got clothing endorsements and wrote books to support the family without having to film the kids. However, Zondervan, which is a Christian publisher after all, probably prefers squeaky clean, wholesome, non-divorced *Christians* for their authors. Kate just doesn't have that image anymore. The article I linked to above also states there were some problems with the originality (or lack thereof) of some of the recipes.

Jill P.,

I'm positive that in 2009 a blogger from the other side of the pond found a link proving that Zondervan dumped this cookbook overseas.

Not England and such, but Asia. This is why I find the response from Zondervan so interesting when it points out that the book has never been released - I know they are lying ... but why specifically did they mention Europe???

Last night I even found some of my old posts on GWOP during the week of 2/19/10 referencing that the book had been dumped overseas, and I'm not the only poster who mentioned it either.

If I find it really bugs me I might search the archives of GWOP for the link myself this weekend. As it is I remember a lot of discussion about where Kate got the recipes in the first place to put in the book and then call them her recipes which is why we thought that the book was dumped. That's right, the discussion was not just about the fact that Jon and Kate were in the process of a divorce so that there was obviously no more love in the mix.

I found the following:

Yes, Kate 'wrote' a cookbook. Got dumped overseas with the divorce.

Mickey....I thought I seen the "love is in the mix" book dumped in Asia on either Jibberjabbers blog or Preesi's Grapevine sometime last year.

I did see the Just ask Kate clothing and her mug on the healthtex clothing at Hudson's Salvage Dirt Cheap...the tags had a website you could submit questions to Kate.

Last night there was supposed to be a special on Reality tv on abc's 20/20. Of course the disasters in Japan and the pacific pre-empted the special. (and should have) I am sure they will air it in the next couple weeks.

As far as Kate I think her big media dreams are needing a "little ironing" She should have stayed true to her branded image of the "ideal mom" from the start...being honest and shielding her kids from the media spotlight during/after the divorce. There is nothing wrong with a dream...heck where would many of us be without dreams? But, to exploit, use and manipulate, sell your own children's childhoods to make a living just goes against everything I have ever thought about motherhood. And, it was all Kate's choices and her very own believing her own public relations that will be her demise.

p.s. I think very little of Zondervan..the exploitive book "I Just Wanted You to Know" was published by them. I hope they have warehouses full of the dead trees for releasing that book.

p.s.s. Have a great weekend neighbors

This just gets better and better !!!

Zondervan, a Christian book publisher that LIES just like one of their authors.

Be sure to check out the links that leaves no doubt in my mind that LOVE IS IN THE MIX was published and then dumped overseas:

http://preesi.lefora.com/2010/01/24/kates-cookbook-dumped-in-europe-apparently-zonderv/?vm=5#post5

and

http://www.glendorabooks.net/gbooks2/taxonomy/term/1157

and

http://www.kriso.ee/Love-Mix-Making-Meals-into-Memories/db/9780310323778.html

Note that prices on these book sites are in euros and not US dollars.

There is no doubt in my mind that Zondervan wants to break ties with Kate. Keep in mind that after this cookbook was released, then they did the I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW book and that book tanked.

As for the clothing line, it was also stopped when the divorce was announced. When you have a brand of a "close knit family" and if it is tarnished by a nasty divorce, sponsors can and do change their mind in order to protect their own image.

Still Zondervan flat out lied in their response above about the cookbook. Wonder why?

March 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMickey McKean

I remember reading that the cookbook would be available in some pretty far-flung markets, such as
India and another country. My thought was "how will people of foreign cuisine find all the ingredients required for Monkey Munch and the other recipes in the book?" There is no place for peanut butter in the Arab world, but I can't speak for India. Then all word of the book vanished into thin air. I do recall chat about the nonoriginality of the recipes in it. Some were calling it "a book of back panels" from cardboard boxes and cans. I'm so pleased this particular book just went away quietly.

Why do you keep saying that the kids do not want to film? It is obvious from Jon's tweet after the judge ruled against him that the kids do want to film. Also, on the CBS Morning Show and at the Murt hearing when Kevin and Jodi were asked what the kids have said about filming they refused to answer. Their refusal to answer indicates that the kids like filming.

March 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterStick to the Facts

Stick to the Facts, sounds to me like you're making assumptions instead of sticking to the facts. Maybe you got that out of Jon's tweets but I didn't and I doubt my regular readers did either. The "indication" about Kevin and Jodi is simply an assumption. A couple of months ago I posted an entry on evidence filming was harming the kids and that they did not want to film. No one can make you believe anything you don't want to bu the evidence is there if you're interested or open to it.

March 12, 2011 | Registered CommenterWerny Gal

Stick to the facts- What do they know what they want!?? At their ages?. They would want to eat ice cream all day every day if they could! But thats not good for them either. FILMING IS ALL THEY KNOW! WORKING is all they know what to do in front of cameras. They should be having a parent around them who is protecting from the public , not throwing them into it. We all deserve privacy. They dont get much do they? Kate herself has said if they ( the kids or one of the kids) dont want to be filmed they let them know, I cant imagine they love having so much of their lives filmed, taking trips ok, what kid or kids wouldnt? But in the end I bet they would want their family back with 2 parents in the house and some security from that. So for me if they wanted to be filmed or not , its not healthy for them , they deserve their lives back. ( if its not too late already)Just beacause their Mother loves it doesnt mean have too . JMO

March 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJulie B

Jodi and Kevin were asked what the kids had told them about filming? Good for them to refuse to answer. First of all, that is called "hearsay" in the legal world, and secondly, Jodi and Kevin were there to protect the privacy of their nephews and nieces, not divulge what they said to the Kreiders. Jodi and Kevin were willing to tell what they SAW and what they FELT and what they KNEW firsthand, but were not willing to rat out the kids and breach the trust the kids may very well have had with them.

March 12, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterfidosmommy

Still Zondervan flat out lied in their response above about the cookbook. Wonder why?

************

Could it be that it was SCHEDULED to be released in those countries, but nobody overseas wanted to touch it either, and therefore it never saw the light of day? It is indeed strange that the company would state that it never went overseas when there were reports that it was shipped to those countries.

In response to "Facts:" Kevin and Jodi were also asked if Kate knew that they were testifying and her reaction if she knew. Kevin said that she knew, but declined any further comment, saying he would prefer to keep it private. Because he didn't answer, does that mean that she approves of his appearing at the hearing? Of course not! Because Kevin didn't answer if the children like filming most certainly doesn't mean that they like filming! That's an absurd assumption. Declining comment means just that - NO COMMENT!

March 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLand Of Midnight Sun

Has anyone actually seen the book? Lots of items are entered into the ISBN system that don't go to market. Could it be that the content was copied over before someone got in there to clean up the data?

Still wondering.

March 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterA Wiki Editor

I don't know if "Love Is In the Mix" was ever released anywhere in the world. It may have been. I can't prove it one way or the other. However, the fact that it was listed doesn't necessarily mean that it was ever released. A couple of years ago, an author who writes a mystery series that I really enjoy, had a book listed for release. Amazon, Borders, and Barnes & Noble all took pre-orders on it. I placed my pre-order several months before the stated release date. The closer it got to that release date, the further back it was pushed. First it was announced that there were difficulties with the print run. Then, it was problems shipping from the warehouse. Then the title was withdrawn completely. The circumstances were a bit different - the author is in her 90's and in poor health - but similar results. So - "Love" MAY have been dumped overseas and it may have been completely withdrawn. There may be a few pre-release reading copies floating out there. Many publishers have a list of reviewers that they supply with a copy of a book, so that reviews are available to pique the buying public's interest before the book actually hits the market. All this is just a long-winded way of saying Zondervan may not be lying about withdrawing the book. OTH - they have long been Kate supporters, so who really knows.

This is off topic, but the rumor of Steve living with Kate has cropped up again. Could this possibly be the reason Jon is not allowed on the property?

March 13, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGeorgiaMom

GeorgiaMom, I don't know how far Jon goes into the property, but he does drop the kids off inside the gate now rather than outside the gate. Do you know where the rumors came from?

March 13, 2011 | Registered CommenterWerny Gal

I just went to www.deastore.com

I put in "Gosselin, Kate" and several books were listed including LOVE IS IN THE MIX.

Hardcover with number of pages listed as 240.

If it was never published, how would they know number of pages and weight of book?

March 13, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMickey McKean

Here's the link directly to kate's book.

I remember seeing the Asian book dump on Grapevine or The Lying Channel blog....

as far as the clothing the JUST ASK KATE was sold 70% off in our local Hudson's Dirt Cheap...it had her picture with a website where people wer going to get to email her questions and she would respond.

It is a shame from the start Kate wasn't honest to the public...her very own PR is turning out to be her nightmare. People are not buying this week in volunteerism with this mother of 8. Every article I SEE points to her kids working on their only spring break at age 6 & 9. But, then again this is her career to ruin...I really think her whole image needs "some ironing"

March 13, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterIrene

Could this possibly be the reason Jon is not allowed on the property?

-----------

I can't answer for GeorgiaMom, but there is a poster on GWOP (who posts under several different names) that he/she has inside info and knows for a fact that Steve lives there all of the time and that the house has been on the market with a private New York real estate firm for some time. Neither report was ever confirmed. Last fall (November 2010?) Bonnie Fuller also reported the basement sleepovers.
